Because of that, he stopped doing anime dubs and English dub Japanese games (the ones that is not AAA). From that year onwards, he now does many cartoons and video games voice acting especially in AAA games. Troy Baker became a mainstream voice actor around 2014. However, she has returned for Catherine in 2019 which notably is an Atlus game. She has since been unionized as well and have given up other roles because of it. I've also noticed that recently she's been doing minimal dubbing roles in the last few years. Rise was recast for P4 Dancing but that seemed to be for scheduling issues rather than her giving up the role, but that was back in 2015 and Rise hasn't been voiced in English since. Laura Bailey (Rise) seems to be the one puzzling me the most. Naoto has had so many different voice actresses it's hard to predict what they would do, though Valerie Arem seems to be the current voice. Yuri Lowenthal (Yosuke) has returned every time but he's only getting bigger and bigger roles now, it seems possible that he may go in the way of Troy Baker. Probably no chance he's returning unless it's an outright remake, even then it's probably Matt Mercer's role now. Troy Baker is pretty much done with Kanji although he seems to still be fond of the character. Sam Riegel literally returned as Teddie for the P4AU announcement last week. Johnny Yong Bosch (MC, Adachi) and Karen Strassman (Nanako) seem to be easy candidates to return as well due to their continued involvement in dubbing. Their Twitter pics are their Persona 4 characters and still seem to love the role, although Erin becoming unionized may complicate matters. Personally, I see Erin Fitzgerald (Chie), and Amanda Winn-Lee (Yukiko) returning no problem. Seeing how most of the cast from this game have gone on to be big names in the industry, who do you think is most (and least) likely to return for their roles if there were to be another Persona 4 related game in the future? Given the sheer amount of Persona 4 games they've had it's not surprising to see changes in the voice cast. Was wondering what the community would think. I see that there is an option in the Sound menu to turn the volume for voices all the way down, and I may do that so I can finally proceed and enjoy the game as if it were a 16-bit era RPG.Just something that I've been thinking about recently, excuse my rambling. I'm not exaggerating when I say I feel it's some of the worst voice acting I've heard in a game for the past ten years or so. I've heard so many great things about the game and am enjoying the story in the first few hours (what the hell is going on with these murders? I want to know more!), but I can't help but wonder why the terrible voice acting isn't mentioned more. How hard is it to get the pronunciation for these few words right? Other times people are saying "I-nuh-buh" for Inaba, and stuff like that. They are way too inconsistent all around. I don't know if her voice actress is just not very good or what, but it's not working and every time she speaks I cringe.Īnother major issue is the pronunciation of Japanese words and names. She clearly sounds like a grown woman trying to speak like a child, which is usually the case, but it's way too obvious here. Persona 4 golden voice actors ps2#(note: I found a video on youtube of this scene from the PS2 version and it sounds totally different and not nearly as bad, so I guess they changed voice actresses?) Persona 4 golden voice actors trial#Her "MY TRIAL OF THE DRAAAAAAGOOOOOOON" line was so bad, I shut the game off for weeks right after she uttered it. Every time she speaks, I can almost see the voice actress flailing her arms, TRYING to sound like she's in the scene and exuding Chie's personality, but it's just grating and insincere. This is especially notable in more "emotional" or "energetic" characters. My main issue is the forced quality of so much of the delivery. I've tried three times to get into the game over the past several years, and every time I stop playing because of the terrible voice acting. Now, with Persona 4: Golden, there is no choice, outside of importing the game, which I don't really feel like doing, especially considering the amount of text-only dialogue there is (kanji is not my strong point). With Dragon Quest, I had a choice and went with English over the Japanese. I've played several games recently with English voice acting, from Dragon Quest Heroes to Conception II and had no problem with them. Yes, I have lived in Japan for eight years of my life and understand the language fairly well, but am open to English voice acting in Japanese games when done well. First, let me just say that I'm not a Japanese/sub snob.
